History of Polish School
The Polish School was established in 1953 to teach Polish Language and Culture to the children of the Polish Community.
Today the school is teaching students who are the grandchildren and great grandchildren of the first students as well as the children of many newer immigrants.
The Polish School is a sub group of the Polish Association in New Zealand. It is run by volunteers on the Polish School Committee. The committee is elected at the Polish School AGM each year. The AGM also votes for a Chairperson to co-ordinate the committee and a Principal to co-ordinate the teachers and classes.
The Orleta Polish Dance Ensemble is a branch of Polish School providing tuition in Polish dancing and singing for children from preschoolers to teenagers.
Activities
Polish School organises classes and activities to provide experience of traditions, culture, history and language. Classes are flexible and are arranged to meet the Community needs. The Polish School acts as an umbrella organisation to assist anyone in organising an activity that meets Polish School Aims.
Come to a Polish School class and you will see the modern teaching methods and activities that you are familiar with at your local playcentre, pre-school and primary school. Classes are activity based and fun as well as educational. Our preschool classes are registered playgroups with the Early Childhood Development Unit.
The school provides a social network. Students and their parents enjoy contact with other Polish families.
